Bini

Short for 'binibini'--or young woman in Tagalog--BINI is the brainchild of Philippine media company ABS-CBN, which, inspired by the global popularity of South Korean girl groups, selected members Aiah, Colet, Gwen, Jhoanna, Maloi, Mikha, Sheena, and Stacey in 2019 from 250 aspirants following a nationwide talent search. The eight-girl pop sensation kicked off back in February its 15-city world tour back in February with a sold-out concert at home, packing excited fans into the 50,000-seat Philippine Arena north of Manila. Last year, it won Best Asia Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards and Billboard K Power 100's Voices of Asia award at its Seoul event. In March, Billboard Philippines named the eight members its Women of the Year as their top songs surpassed a billion streams on Spotify.

Shazza

Shazza, whose real name is Shareefa Aminah, launched her music career while studying at Singapore's Ngee Ann Polytechnic, releasing 14 songs before completing her mass communications degree. Most recently, she appeared in a TikTok performance with Canadian songwriting duo Crash Adams and got a shoutout from Coldplay's Chris Martin. Krit Amnuaydechkorn, referred to as "PP Krit," is one of Thailand's best-known young performing artists. Big Ocean

Big Ocean is the first K-pop group composed of members with hearing impairments: Kim Ji-seok, Lee Chan-yeon and Park Hyun-jin. Its agency, Parastar Entertainment, focuses on representing artists with disabilities. The group's vocals are recorded with the use of AI, and while performing on stage they wear special vibrating devices to help synchronize dance movements. The trio released the group's first mini album in November 2024 and have over one million Instagram followers.

Singer, actor, and model Cha Eun-woo (born Lee Dong-min) started his acting career in 2014 with a supporting role in the film "My Brilliant Life." Sheetal Devi

Sheetal Devi became India's youngest Paralympic medalist after winning bronze in an archery team event at the Paralympics in Paris. Born without arms, Devi sits to hold the bow with her right foot, pulls the string taut with her right shoulder, and then releases the string by unclenching her contracted jaw and shoulder. Discovered by the Indian army in her childhood, Devi didn't take up archery until she was 15 years old. Gukesh Dommaraju

Gukesh Dommaraju is the youngest undisputed World Chess Champion ever. Born to scientist parents, Dommaraju began playing chess at seven and won the Under-9 category in the World Youth Chess Championship in 2015. He went on to become the second-youngest grandmaster in competitive chess history, the youngest person to score a 2750 FIDE rating and the third-youngest to get a 2700 Elo rating. He challenged World Chess Champion Ding Liren in January and won the crown after 14 rounds.

Stray Kids

Stray Kids found global popularity by following their instincts, producing rock hits with a noisier, more industrial sound than the usual K-pop group. The 8-member group, formed in a reality TV show in 2017, debuted with their EP "I Am Not" in 2018, which quickly went platinum. Four years later, its EP "Oddinary" topped the Billboard 200, making Stray Kids the third only K-pop group to achieve that position, following boy bands BTS and SuperM. The group, included in 2023 on Time Magazine's Next Generation Leaders list, performed in 2024 at the American Music Awards.

Mary Fowler

Mary Fowler became Australia's footballer-to-watch at a young age and has already played more than 50 international games. Fowler debuted on the national team, the Matildas, in 2016 at age 15. Rizki Juniansyah

Rizki Juniansyah became Indonesia's youngest Olympic gold medalist after he dominated the men's 73kg class weightlifting event in Paris setting a new Olympic record in the process. Juniansyah, newly competing in adult leagues, was known for setting junior division records: at the 2021 International Weightlifting Federation Junior World championships, he made three new league records, and then in 2022 he surpassed himself with two records. Juniansyah also won gold in the Southeast Asia Games in Phnom Penh in 2023 and took gold again at the IWF World Cup, setting a world record with his 365kg total in lifts.

Ishaan Khatter

Ishaan Khatter is on the verge of becoming an A-lister both in Bollywood and Hollywood. For his first film, the indie Hindi drama 'Beyond the Clouds,' Khatter won Filmfare Awards' Best Male Debut in 2019 and the India International Film Academy's Best Male Debut award. Khatter moved on to star in 'A Suitable Boy' (2020) on Netflix and last year acted alongside superstar Nicole Kidman in 'The Perfect Couple.'

Zakia Khudadadi

Zakia Khudadadi made history last year as the first athlete on the Refugee Paralympic Team to win a medal. Khudadadi's rise started in 2016 when she won the African International Parataekwondo Championship representing Afghanistan and then qualified for the 2020 Paralympics. In 2020 she became the second woman from Afghanistan to compete in the Paralympic Games since the event started in 1960, although she had to flee Taliban-controlled Kabul to compete. Now on the Refugee Paralympic Team, Khudadadi took bronze in the women's 47kg category in Paris 2024 and was later included on the BBC's 100 Women list.

Tom Kim

Tom Kim is one of the youngest top golfers, currently ranked 41st in the world. Kim, whose full name is Kim Joo-hyung, defended his Shriners Children's Open title last October, becoming the youngest golfer to win three Professional Golfers Association Tour titles since Tiger Woods in 1997. Kim turned pro in 2018 and won his first PGA tournament in 2022, becoming the first PGA tournament winner born after 2000. His rising popularity was noticed by Nike, which signed an endorsement deal with him last year. Although he lost two playoff games in 2024, he was ranked 11th worldwide at his peak in 2023.

Veddriq Leonardo

Veddriq Leonardo is one of the world's fastest speed climbers, frequently resetting global records. Leonardo won gold in competition speed climbing at the Olympics in 2024, becoming Indonesia's first gold medalist in a sport other than badminton. Later that year he won the World Games' Athlete of the Year award. He won three IFSC Climbing World Cups between 2021 and 2023, as well as the Climbing World Games in 2022. Leonardo was born in West Kalimantan, and started his climbing career in the state's mountains, despite his mother's fears.

Li Wenwen

Li Wenwen is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, having won in both Tokyo and Paris. Her victory in Paris in the women's +81 kg class weightlifting event was a comeback after Li sustained a serious elbow injury at the World Weightlifting Championships in 2023. Li overcame body shaming with grace from a young age, ignoring criticism from her father and school coaches, and pursued her dream of success in weightlifting. Koki Kano is bringing Japan glory in épée fencing, or sword fighting with the heaviest of three weapons used in the sport. Kano made his Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2021, joining a team that won gold in épée, Japan's first gold in a fencing event. Between Olympics, Kano won individual épée gold medals at both the 2022 and 2023 Asian Fencing Championships and then went to Paris and took Olympic gold in individual épée fencing in 2024, another first for Japan.

Lim Si-hyeon

Lim Si-hyeon hit every mark she aimed for in 2024, taking gold in all three archery events at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. She also set a world and the Olympic women's record by shooting a score of 694 out of a maximum of 720. Before her Olympic debut, Lim dominated Archery World Cup matches in 2023 and 2024, winning a total 14 medals, 10 of which were gold. Lim, educated at Korea National Sport University, won Korea's Sports Award and Maeil Broadcast Network's Women's Sports Award after her Olympic victories.

Tkay Maidza

Tkay Maidza, whose real name is Takudzwa Victoria Rose Maidza, is a Zimbabwean-Australian artist making hits with R&B, electronic and hip-hop artists. Maidza pairs her shrewd raps with sultry vocals over electronic beats. Her career took off after she appeared on the Australia Broadcasting Corporation's music discovery show "Triple J," and other artists agreed to feature on her tracks, including Killer Mike and Flume. Two of her EPs, "Last Year Was Weird Vol. 3" and "Sweet Justice," won the ARIA Music Awards' Best Soul/R&B Release awards in 2021 and 2024.

Kaylee McKeown

Kaylee McKeown is the women's world record-holder in two swimming events--50m and 200m backstroke--and a fivetime Olympic gold medalist. McKeown joined Australia's national team at 15. In 2023 she swept the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events at the World Aquatic Championships and was named Best Female Swimmer of the Year by World Aquatics Magazine, all before successfully defending her 100m and 200m backstroke titles at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Arshad Nadeem

Arshad Nadeem's impressive javelin throws won Pakistan its first-ever Olympic gold for an individual sport in Paris 2024. Before his historic win, Nadeem took gold at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey and the Commonwealth Games in 2022, and then won second place for men's javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships in 2023. Nadeem's stunning show at the Paris Olympics, though, set a new Olympic record for his 92.97m javelin throw. For his win, Pakistan named a road in Islamabad in his honor, while his father-in-law gifted him a buffalo.

Shinnosuke Oka

Shinnosuke Oka won four medals in men's gymnastics at the Paris Olympics--an impressive feat given his limited experience in international competitions. He started the sport at the age of 4 and at age 15 had won the all-around title at the inaugural Junior World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 2019. After recovering from a ligament tear in a 2022 competition, he took the all-around title at the 2023 Asian Championships. In Paris, he won gold in the all-around performance, plus for horizontal bars and the team event, while taking bronze in parallel bars.

Daniel Quizon

Chess prodigy Daniel Quizon became Philippine's latest Grandmaster at 20 when he beat Igor Efimov, 64, during the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Hungary last September. Quizon has been the reigning Philippine Chess Champion since 2021. He was undefeated in the ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships 2023 and dominated the Hanoi Grandmaster Chess Tournament in March 2024. Quizon has a FIDE rating of 2461 in standard chess, 2317 in rapid and 2394 in blitz.

Arisa Trew

A 14-year-old prodigy, Arisa Trew became Australia's youngest-ever Olympic champion in 2024 when she took gold in Paris in women's park skateboarding. Three months earlier, she became the first woman ever to land a 900 aerial spin in a competition, prompting praise from skateboarding legend Tony Hawk. The year before, Trew was the first woman to land a 720 aerial and won both women's park and vert events in the X Games two years in a row. As a reward for her gravitydefying feats, Trew's parents got her a pet duck, which they had promised her if she won an Olympic gold.

Gaby Rosenberg

Together with her elder sister Ali (who is over 30), Gaby Rosenberg cofounded Sydney-headquartered Blossom App in 2021 to make bonds and other debt instruments more accessible. Its two products, Blossom Save and Blossom Plus--managed by financial services firm Fortlake Asset Management--aim for returns of 5.7% and 6.75% a year, respectively. Rosenberg says the average client invests A$12,000, but anyone can start with as little as A$5 in Blossom Save, which allows investors quick access to their money, while Blossom Plus has a A$5,000 minimum and a three-month lock-up period. At the end of March, Blossom had more than 26,000 users and funds under management of A$112 million ($72 million), generating over A$5 million in revenue since inception, according to Rosenberg.

Raya Buensuceso

Raya Buensuceso is managing director of Kaya Founders, which invests in early-stage startups in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia. With over 50 investments, Kaya Founders says it has $29 million in total assets under management. Since its launch in 2021, Buensuceso says she has been involved in every aspect of Kaya's operations, including research, marketing, strategy, and investments. She graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in economics.

Nathaniel Chan

Nathaniel Chan joined Hong Kong-based VC firm Betatron Venture Group in 2019 as an associate and became a principal in 2022. The firm's portfolio spans 51 companies across Asia, of which Chan says he has assisted 31 investments. Chan graduated from Durham University with a bachelor's degree in economics, and he interned for global startup accelerator Brinc.

Ysabel Chua

Ysabel Chua is a vice president at Singapore-based VC firm Forge Ventures, which has a portfolio of 16 companies. She joined in 2022 as an associate and was the firm's first employee. Since then, Chua has overseen five investments, including in Indonesian supply chain startup Baskit and food startup Prefer. Chua was previously chief of staff at Philippine fintech startup PayMongo, and a senior product manager at Southeast Asian e-commerce giant Shopee.

Emmanuel Hui

Emmanuel Hui leads Pebble, a Hong Kong-based startup accelerator backed by Chinese billionaire Ye Xiaoping's biotech giant Tigermed, investment firm Morningside, and the Nan Fung group. It provides initial investments of around $200,000 to biotech startups and has a portfolio of 22 companies. A graduate of Dartmouth College, Hui cofounded Moogene Medi, a listed company, before leaving to join private equity firm Sagamore Investments in 2019 as a healthcare and life sciences specialist.

Hogun Lee

Hogun Lee is an investment principal at InterVest, a South Korean VC with $1.6 billion in assets under management. InterVest's investments include 'Baby Shark' creator Pinkfong and Alibaba-backed women's fashion unicorn Ably. A former blockchain engineer, Lee joined InterVest in 2022 to launch and lead InterVest's Web3 fund. So far, Lee says he has invested more than $21 million in 10 Web3 startups, including Seoul-based EQBR and Fazz/StraitsX in Southeast Asia. Lee is also a global ambassador for Avalanche, a blockchain platform developed by Andreessen Horowitz-backed Ava Labs. Lee holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from Cornell University and served as president of the Cornell Blockchain Club.

Paul Lei

Born in Chengdu, China, Paul Lei is head of protocol strategy for Gauntlet, which offers risk management and optimization tools for decentralized finance platforms. Lei's clients include Mantle and Polygon, for which Gauntlet helped launch lending vaults in March. In 2022, New York-headquartered Gauntlet raised a $23.8 million series B funding round that brought the startup's valuation to over $1 billion. Lei graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor's degree in statistics.

Laura Lukito

Laura Lukito is cofounder of the fintech firm ArkoPay, which offers financial help to small and midsized construction businesses in Indonesia. The company helps suppliers, contractors, and developers with their cash flow, labor payments, and to better manage materials inventories. It received S$405,000 ($300,000) in funding from The Big Spark, a business reality show produced by Singapore-based news network CNA, in March 2024.

Toga Nakazawa

Toga Nakazawa's Alumnote, which he started as a law student at Tokyo University in 2020, helps universities keep in touch with alumni, students, and companies to solicit donations. It was a finalist at the Global EdTech Startup Awards in London in January. To date, Alumnote says it has raised ¥430 million ($2.9 million) for some 100 colleges, including Kyoto University and Meiji University. The company counts Itochu Technology Ventures and University of Tokyo Edge Capital Partners among its investors.

Cofounders, Turing Space | Taiwan

Turing Space

Taiwan's Hu Yao-chieh and Hang Meng-tse are cofounders of Turing Space, a startup tackling the rising problem of identity fraud with its flagship product, tamper-proof digital certificates. The subscription-based service uses blockchain technology to provide customized electronic certificates for paper documents, such as diplomas, health reports, and real estate contracts. Launched in 2020, the company says it counts the Taipei city government, the National Taiwan University, and the World Health Organization among its clients. In November, Turing raised over $3 million in a funding round led by Taipei-based ProFederal that will be used for product development and overseas expansion.

Factorem

Cofounded by Hardik Dobariya and Alexandra Zhang in 2020, Singapore-based Factorem matches companies with manufacturers capable of producing and delivering custom parts on demand within days, with no minimum quantity requirement. Factorem uses AI to scan designs uploaded by users, vet manufacturers best suited for the job, and provide instant quotes. The company says it works with over 150 manufacturers in Southeast Asia. In October 2023, it raised an undisclosed seed funding round led by Seeds Capital, the investment arm of Enterprise Singapore, and robotics-focused Blue InCube.
Cofounders, Ababa | Japan

Ababa

Cofounded by Shunki Kubo and Tatsuya Nakai, Ababa is a recruitment platform serving Japanese graduates who were vetted by a prospective employer but either got rejected after becoming a finalist or declined the offer. Kubo came up with the idea for the firm in 2020 while in college, when he saw a friend crying "ababababa" after failing to land a job. To date, Ababa has raised ¥1.82 billion ($13 million) in debt and equity, including ¥1.25 billion in a series B round in March. Ababa says it has over 1,700 corporate users.

Baaz Bikes

IIT alumni Abhijeet Saxena, Anubhav Sharma, Karan Singla, and Shubham Srivastava cofounded Baaz Bikes, which offers subscription-based electric scooters and battery swapping for last-mile delivery workers in India. Founded in 2019, the company claims to have done over 1.5 million battery swaps and that its fleet has booked more than 41 million kilometers. Baaz raised $8 million in a series A round led by Singapore-based BIG Capital in November 2023, bringing total funding to over $10 million.

Saivya Chauhan

Saivya Chauhan founded Blitz Electric Mobility in 2019, offering last-mile and instant delivery services in 20 Indonesian cities using trackable electric bikes instead of conventional motorcycles. Blitz's clients include e-commerce, F&B, and logistics brands such as Blibli, Domino's Pizza, and DHL. Besides delivery services, Blitz partnered with coffee chain Janji Jiwa to allow its drivers to earn extra income by selling coffee on the streets using its fleet. Following last year's $1.6 million seed funding, Blitz announced a $4 million pre-series A round in March led by Vynn Capital. Born in India, Chauhan has lived in Indonesia for 15 years.

Pablo Morales Navarrete

Pablo Morales Navarrete is CEO of fabless chip designer Atom Semiconductor Technologies (AtomSemi). Working alongside founder George Yuan (over 30), a professor of electronic and computer engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Navarrete oversees development of the company's sensor chips. AtomSemi says its chips can measure humidity, pressure, and temperature, and are used for warehousing, medical electronics, and smart homes, among other applications. In 2022, the company raised almost 100 million yuan ($15.7 million) in pre-series A funding from investors led by Qiming Venture Partners.

Amber Winton

A former Salesforce trainer, Amber Winton, founded NextWork in 2021. The Wellington-based edtech company offers personalized online courses to learn AWS skills. Grady Kusmulyadi

Grady Kusmulyadi is chief product officer at McEasy, an Indonesian fleet and logistics management systems provider. Kusmulyadi, who joined McEasy in January 2022 as head of growth strategy, says he has helped boost sales by integrating AI camera technology with the company's solutions to enhance safety and security. McEasy claims it has over 1,500 clients, including state oil company Pertamina and logistics firm JNE. In June 2024, McEasy extended its series A round to $11 million with an injection by Granite Asia, up from its $6.5 million fundraise in 2022 led by East Ventures.
