ByteDance has emerged as the most aggressive recruiter in China’s technology sector this year, reflecting a broader surge in demand for artificial intelligence talent across the mainland. According to a new report from Maimai, China’s largest professional social networking platform, AI related job postings have increased by more than five hundred percent, underscoring how rapidly hiring priorities are shifting within the country’s tech industry.

Between January and October, ByteDance ranked first in tech hiring activity, posting a hiring index score of 897. The index is calculated by dividing the number of new job listings by a fixed coefficient, offering a comparative view of recruitment intensity rather than absolute figures. ByteDance’s score placed it well ahead of food delivery and services giant Meituan, which recorded an index of 587, and Alibaba Group Holding at 407. The report also shows increased hiring momentum among hardware focused companies. Job postings at smartphone maker Oppo, emerging markets handset specialist Transsion Holdings, and drone manufacturer DJI all doubled during the period. These companies are increasingly integrating AI into their products, from camera systems and battery optimization to autonomous navigation and industrial applications. As a result, their talent needs now overlap significantly with those of software and internet firms.
