Chen Yuxi Honoured as World Aquatics Female Diver of the Year After Remarkable 2025 Season

China’s Chen Yuxi has been named World Aquatics Female Diving Athlete of the Year, capping a dominant season that further cemented her status as one of the most accomplished divers of her generation. The award was announced on Wednesday, with Australia’s Cassiel Rousseau receiving the men’s honour after an impressive year of his own.

At just 20 years old, Chen enjoyed a near flawless 2025 that showcased both technical brilliance and remarkable consistency. She continued China’s long standing dominance in the women’s 10 metre platform by completing an unbeaten run across the Diving World Cup circuit. Over the course of the season, she collected seven victories, including three gold medals at the Super Final held in Beijing, where she delivered some of her most composed and confident performances in front of a home crowd.

Chen carried that momentum into the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore during the summer, where she again proved untouchable. She claimed gold in the women’s individual 10 metre platform, teamed up to win the women’s synchronised 10 metre platform, and added another title in the mixed team event. The triple triumph underlined her versatility and her ability to perform under pressure across multiple formats.

Her success in Singapore was historic. By adding those titles to her growing collection, Chen became the first diver to win four world championship titles in the women’s 10 metre platform discipline, a milestone that places her among the sport’s all time greats. Observers noted that her performances combined precision, calm execution, and an increasing sense of authority on the board.

Already a familiar name on the Olympic stage, Chen is a two time Olympic champion in the women’s synchronised 10 metre platform. She has also claimed individual Olympic silver medals at both the Tokyo and Paris Games, achievements that reflect her longevity at the highest level despite her young age. After earlier setbacks and intense competition within China’s deep diving program, her return to peak form in 2025 has been widely praised.

Speaking previously about her resurgence, Chen has emphasized the importance of discipline and collective support. She has credited long hours of training and the encouragement of coaches and teammates for helping her maintain stability in competition. She has often described diving as a sport where confidence is built gradually through repetition and trust in preparation.

On the men’s side, Australia’s Cassiel Rousseau was recognised for a standout year that brought renewed attention to diving outside its traditional powerhouses. His performances were seen as a sign of growing global depth in the sport, even as China continues to set the benchmark.

World Aquatics said the awards reflected not only medal counts but also consistency, impact, and sportsmanship throughout the season. For Chen Yuxi, the recognition crowns a year that confirmed her place at the forefront of international diving and set high expectations for the seasons still to come.
