Huawei prepares Mate 80 lineup and new foldable Mate X7 as competition intensifies

Huawei is preparing to unveil its latest flagship smartphones as anticipation builds over whether the company will introduce a new generation of its in house Kirin processor. The new Mate 80 series and the foldable Mate X7 are scheduled for launch next Tuesday, marking another major step in Huawei’s effort to reclaim ground in the global premium smartphone race.
The company confirmed that the Mate 80 family will include several models, such as the standard Mate 80, the Mate 80 Pro, the Mate 80 Pro Max and the Mate 80 RS. These devices are already available for pre order, although Huawei has not yet revealed full pricing or detailed technical specifications. As usual, the company is keeping key features under wraps until the official announcement.
What is drawing particular attention is the possibility that these phones will be powered by the Kirin 9030, Huawei’s next generation processor. Industry watchers have been debating for months whether Huawei would continue advancing its chip development after the strong performance of the Mate 60 series. That earlier lineup surprised global analysts by using the Kirin 9000s processor, seen as a major milestone for Huawei despite US technology restrictions. If the Kirin 9030 appears in the Mate 80, it would further signal the company’s determination to push forward with domestic chip innovation.
Huawei added more momentum to the excitement on Tuesday when it confirmed that the Mate X7 foldable phone will also be part of the upcoming launch. A short preview was released on the company’s online platforms, showing a refined hinge design and a polished build that suggests Huawei wants to strengthen its place in the foldable market. The Mate X series has long been considered one of the most advanced foldable offerings from a Chinese brand, often praised for its durability and display quality.
The competition Huawei faces is intense. Apple’s latest iPhone lineup continues to dominate the high end market globally, while Chinese rival Xiaomi is aggressively expanding both inside and outside China with new models that blend performance and competitive pricing. By unveiling both a new flagship family and a new foldable at the same time, Huawei is clearly signaling that it intends to stand firmly among the top tier smartphone makers.
While complete specifications will only be released at the launch event, the company’s strategy is already clear. Huawei aims to consolidate its comeback by combining hardware innovation, improved processing power, and a broader device ecosystem. All eyes will be on next week’s reveal to see how far the company has advanced and whether it can shift the balance in the ongoing battle for leadership in the premium smartphone industry.
