Russian Fitness Coach Dies After Extreme Junk-Food Challenge Meant to Promote Weight Loss Courses

A Russian fitness coach and online influencer has died after taking part in an extreme binge eating stunt aimed at promoting his weight loss programmes, triggering warnings from health experts about the dangers of such challenges. Dmitry Nuyanzin, 30, reportedly consumed massive quantities of junk food including cakes, pizzas, pastries, dumplings and chips in an effort to gain at least 25 kilograms before demonstrating how quickly he could shed the weight.

Nuyanzin died in his sleep in Orenburg in November, according to reports on Russian social media. The influencer had attracted significant attention for documenting his rapid weight gain as part of a so called transformation experiment. Friends and followers said he appeared increasingly unwell in the days leading up to his death.

Medical professionals have condemned the stunt, saying sudden extreme overeating places intense strain on the heart, liver and digestive system. They warned that using such risks to market weight loss courses sends a dangerous message, particularly to young audiences who may attempt to copy similar challenges.

Russian authorities have not released an official cause of death, but local media reported that Nuyanzin’s health deteriorated sharply after the binge eating marathon. His death has prompted renewed calls for tighter regulation of online fitness influencers who promote unverified and potentially harmful practices.

Health experts emphasise that sustainable weight loss requires medically sound guidance and warned against extreme methods that can lead to life threatening complications. Nuyanzin’s case has become a cautionary example of the potential consequences of pushing the limits for social media content.
