Chinese Carmaker Patents Voice Controlled In Car Toilet Concept

Seres has secured a patent for a voice controlled “in vehicle toilet,” highlighting the growing trend of unconventional features in electric vehicles. The concept, developed by the company and its subsidiary brand Aito, is designed to provide convenience during long journeys, particularly for drivers traveling or camping in remote areas.
According to the patent filing, the system involves a compact toilet that slides out from beneath a passenger seat and can be activated either manually or through voice commands. The design aims to maximize space efficiency, allowing the unit to remain hidden when not in use without compromising cabin layout.
The proposed system includes features to manage hygiene and odor control, such as a ventilation fan and an exhaust mechanism to direct smells outside the vehicle. Waste would be stored in a dedicated tank requiring manual emptying, while a heating component is intended to evaporate liquid waste and dry solid matter.
Although Chongqing based Seres has not confirmed plans to commercialize the feature, the patent reflects increasing competition among electric vehicle manufacturers to differentiate their offerings. Modern EVs are already incorporating features like entertainment systems, refrigeration units, and massage seating to enhance user experience.
The concept underscores how innovation in the automotive sector is extending beyond performance and efficiency into lifestyle oriented design. Whether such features reach production remains uncertain, but they signal how carmakers are reimagining mobility to meet evolving consumer expectations.
